My thought for the day is Tom Duncan. He is a teenager who was at Bournside in the year between Scarlett and Jord.
Scarlett knows him from school. Tom had a horrendous accident 18 months ago when he fell from the roof of Woolworths in Cheltenham. He is still in Frenchay Hospital slowly recovering from this - perhaps a miracle recovery under the circumstances. There was an article in yesterdays Echo - http://www.thisisgloucestershire.co.uk/news/School-pupils-aim-raise-cash-paralysed-friend/article-1094853-detail/article.html - about a campaign to raise funds for Tom to buy a special computer that will help him to talk.
His friends and family are trying to raise about £15,000 to buy this specialist equipment that will help Tom communicate with them as he can no longer talk. A fund has been set up at Lloyds TSB in Cheltenham to collect the money, the account is called 'Tom Duncan is being healed' fund. sort code-309187. account number-0212706. Cheques can be made payable to the same fund and can be sent to two parents: Ms Penelope Grattan, The Manse, Grange Walk, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham, GL538JX or Mrs Ellie Flook 44 Eldon Road, Cheltenham GL526TU.
I don't know Tom myself but I thought I would donate a tenner towards this. Then I thought if lots and lots of people did the same - just sent a cheque for a tenner - that would be great. So my thought for the day is for Tom, what happened to him - it could happen to any of our kids. You read so much about misery and corruption and I think well here is one way to do something good today - for a tenner to help a young lad speak and communicate with the people who love him so much. A tenner isn't much......go on send a cheque :)

Monday 22 June 2009
Well I cannot guarantee I will have a thought everyday. Sometimes a blank brain is a happy brain especially after a long day attending to other peoples's worrys and attending meetings. Today is a Monday and my thoughts on a Monday are usually hankering after the weekend just passed. June is a lovely month although my thoughts and time are usually taken up with sneezing and having itchy eyes as I get shocking hayfever. Today has been very sneezy. I wonder if living by the sea would help.
